The Light of Grace

Today at the ministry I’m resting on my bed to hear, as it is announced every morning just before 9AM, that we are to keep out of the bathrooms while those who have volunteered, clean them. But I have to go! So I peep into one of the eight bathrooms, see that it’s been cleaned (obvious traces of Ajax) and I use it. Then a dorm monitor comes in and exclaims with all the disdain possible, “Really?!” As though she was in the middle of cleaning and I had all but pushed my way through. In my kind–as-possible voice I say, “Yes. I’m sorry.” There was no other reply.
I was sorry that such a triviality would distress her so. That, like cups and plates, toilets included, once they are cleaned they are ready to be used. Again.
What was the point of such an unnecessary comment?
When we are irritated, we in-turn irritate others. When we could so easily bless someone in the smallest of details:
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay.”
“No matter.”
“Of course.”
“It’s no big deal.”
These are little gems of blessings, called Grace that can be spread throughout a day. The one thing we want so desperately to receive and yet we are unwilling to divvy it out.
So, I tried to be a blessing by not being adversarial or sarcastic in the tone of my voice. It is evident that the Holy Spirit is growing in me by giving one little blessing of encouragement. It lightened my load and my spirit. I hope it lightened hers as well.
Continue to shine His Light, and be a Traveling Light for the world!
